ABOUT JON
Jon's work represents over 50 years of experience, constantly morphing with experimentation, collaboration, conversation, and play. Part of the joy (and stress) of pottery is that no fire is exactly the same -every kiln yields surprises and every piece he makes is a unique work of art.
Jon started experimenting with clay in Corvallis Art Center in 1968 and was captured by the process of forming structure and art out of a malleable and imprecise medium. He continued his clay exploration in high school with teacher Dennis Staats, before going on to get his BA in Studio Art from Whitman College (1981) and his MFA from the University of Oregon (1987).
In 1989 Jon (second from the left) initiated the founding of Club Mud, a cooperative clay arts studio in Eugene, Oregon, where he still works to this day. That same year he joined the Eugene Saturday Market and has been a continuous member ever since.
Jon sells his art mainly in the local Western Oregon art scene, prioritizing community building and full engagement in his artistic experience. He does take commissions, and we are slowly figuring out online sales.
